Privacy policy
The site is designed to work without an account and to collect as little visitor information as practical.
What Burlington News stores
The site does not currently require an account, sell visitor data or build advertising or political-preference profiles. Small settings may be stored on your device so the site remembers light or dark mode, saved events, Burlington Passport progress and food places you marked tried.
Explore and food progress stay in that browser. Interactive quizzes may keep temporary progress while you play. These choices are not sent to a Burlington News account or database, so the site cannot currently publish an aggregate save count or leaderboard.
Article pages may keep anonymous reading signals in that same browser — for example that a story was opened, how far it was scrolled, or that listen, share or related-story controls were used. A simple on-device open count may also be stored so the homepage can later learn which stories are being read. Those signals do not include a name or email, are not enough to publish a public “most read” list, and they are not sent to an advertising company. If Burlington News later sends them to a first-party endpoint, this page will be updated first.
Feedback
The feedback page lets you write a message and optionally enter an email address. The current form opens your own email application with that information filled in; the static website does not submit or store the form contents itself.
If you send the email, your email provider and the receiving mail service will process the message under their own policies. Do not include sensitive information that is not needed to resolve the issue.
Work with us
The Work with us form is sent over HTTPS to a Burlington News contact service. The service checks the message and emails it to the Burlington News inbox. Submissions are not kept in a public file or database after that email is sent.
The message can include your name, email, optional organization, phone or URL, the reason you wrote, and your note. Do not include sensitive information that is not needed.
Ward finder and embedded services
The ward page uses the City of Burlington's official address lookup. If you enter an address in that embedded City/ArcGIS tool, the request is handled by that service rather than by Burlington News. A direct link is also provided if you prefer to use the City's tool outside this site.
Hosting and normal web logs
The site is hosted using GitHub Pages. GitHub and network providers may process ordinary technical information needed to deliver a webpage, such as an IP address, browser information, request time and requested page. Their handling of that information is governed by their own policies.
External links and images
Pages may load or link to material from government sites, local reporting, candidate websites, Wikimedia Commons and other third parties. Those services can receive ordinary browser request information and have their own privacy practices. Burlington News does not control their systems.
If the site adds new features
If a future newsletter, account, advertising, analytics, partnership or other feature materially changes what visitor information is collected or stored, this page should be updated to explain it before or when that feature is introduced.
