If Upper Middle Road is part of your daily route, the important thing is not one closure date.
It is that the construction moves.
Phase One covers Upper Middle between Mountain Grove Avenue and Guelph Line. The City's current schedule sends the project into watermain installation in fall 2026, with that work expected to continue into spring 2027.
The first major work is underground
Watermain installation requires crews to occupy parts of the roadway, which means lanes can narrow or shift as the work advances.
That matters most when Upper Middle is already busy: school drop-off, the morning commute and late-afternoon traffic approaching Guelph Line.
A route can still look open in a navigation app and take noticeably longer once traffic compresses around a work zone.
Finishing the watermain does not finish the project
Once the underground work is substantially complete, the project moves into surface restoration, currently scheduled for spring through summer 2027.
That stage includes resurfacing, sidewalk work, median construction and tree planting.
So “watermain complete” will not mean the corridor immediately returns to normal.
What is actually worth checking day to day
The overall project schedule tells you which phase Burlington is in. It does not tell you exactly where a lane will disappear on a particular morning.
For that, current City construction notices and temporary traffic-control updates matter more than the final project end date.
Residents who live on the corridor are expected to retain access. Through-drivers have more flexibility: when a work zone is especially disruptive, the useful decision may be to shift north or south before reaching the active section rather than waiting until the restriction is directly ahead.
