What this site is

Burlington News is an independent civic-information project created by a Burlington resident. The Election Guide is one part of the site. It is not operated by the City of Burlington, Halton Region, Elections Ontario, the Province of Ontario, a political party, candidate or campaign.

The site may summarize public records, local news, government decisions, candidate statements and public discussion. Election coverage does not endorse candidates.

Accuracy, updates and corrections

Local information changes. Sources can be corrected, moved or updated, and a short summary can leave out detail. We try to link important claims back to the strongest practical source and to distinguish records, campaign claims, opinion and unresolved allegations.

We do not guarantee that every page is complete, current or error-free. If something is wrong or missing important context, use Give feedback and include the page plus the best supporting source you have.

Automated updates

Software may monitor selected sources, detect changes and refresh short source-linked listings. Automated discovery does not make a social post or third-party claim true. Substantive articles are expected to identify their supporting sources and receive editorial review before publication.

Public comments and political claims

Public comments may be quoted when they raise a substantive local question. A comment is not treated as proof. When the comment includes a factual claim, the factual part should be checked separately and labelled according to the available evidence.

Opinion, motive and legal conclusions should not be presented as established fact without evidence. A candidate or public official may ask for a correction; requests are reviewed using the same sourcing and fairness standards rather than being automatically accepted or rejected.

Third-party links, photos and material

The site links to government pages, reporting, campaign sites, public records and other third-party services. Those services control their own content, availability and privacy practices. A link does not mean Burlington News endorses the source's opinions.

Names, public statements, government records and limited third-party material may be referenced for reporting, commentary, comparison and civic education. Rights in third-party material remain with their owners. If an image's reuse rights or identity are not sufficiently clear, it should be omitted or replaced.

Puzzles and educational features

Games, quizzes, charts and beginner explainers are educational features. They may simplify a topic so it is easier to understand. They should not be used as the official source for a legal rule, voting requirement or government service.

No professional advice

Nothing on the site is legal, financial, planning, investment, voting or other professional advice. You remain responsible for checking official information and making your own decisions.

Availability, liability and law

The site may be corrected, expanded, reorganized, archived or temporarily unavailable. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, it is provided “as is” and “as available,” and the operator is not responsible for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses arising from use of or reliance on the site or third-party sources.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded. These terms are governed by laws applicable in Ontario and Canada.
